Gay surfers head south

Following their first-ever march in the Mardi Gras parade, members of the Gay Surfers group will embark on their first surf trip in May.
The group, which recently celebrated its first birthday, now has almost 3000 members from around 80 countries. The Sydney chapter is particularly strong, with group founder Thomas a Sydney native.
The upcoming trip, to be hosted by Australian Surf Tours, will take place from May 13 – 15 on the south coast of NSW, departing from Sydney. The two-day, two-night jaunt will give surfers a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of New South Wales’ South Coast on pristine, uncrowded beaches.
Included in the $249.95 per person cost is all food (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks), camping and surfing equipment, transfers to the destination, a wildlife viewing and feeding and two learn-to-surf lessons per day. As well as hitting the waves, participants can expect to see dolphins, kangaroos and possums, feed stingrays and enjoy stories around a campfire.
The group will leave from Central Station at 6.30pm on Friday, May 13, with other pick-up points possible if arranged in advance.
